Since 2023, the yearly ECS Summer School welcomes 40 selected undergraduate students in STEM disciplines from across Europe and Associate countries for an intensive week of academic lectures, technical sessions and industry-driven insights. The School is organized by the European Chips Skills Academy with AENEAS, EPOSS and INSIDE, and the programme is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the European microelectronics landscape. The school combines scientific content with practical perspectives from industry, and opportunities for networking with peers and experts, with the ultimate goal of highlighting the attractiveness of the sector for a wide range of professional profiles.
In this context, AttoSwitch was invited to contribute on the first day of ECS 2026 Summer School held during 23 -28 August 2026 at Bertinoro, Italy. devoted to nanoelectronic technology, with a tutorial lecture on transistors and their steep slope variants. The lecture, held by Luca Selmi, AttoSwitch project scientific coordinator, embraces a tutorial approach starting from very fundamental concepts of physics, and building upon intuitive examples. The key role of electronic switches and the importance of digital switching performance for the sustainability of large scale electronics were illustrated to highlight the need for continuous innovations in transistor architectures, with 2D and Dirac materials potentially entering the roadmap in about 10 years.
Meeting a highly motivated audience of young students in the process of choosing their future field of activity was an important step and a great opportunity for the AttoSwitch strategy to disseminate knowledge to all technology stakeholders, and to support the semiconductor industry attractiveness toward young talents.
